Faith Sharings
is a collection of simple discussions on some very complex ideals. But
if we look at them in their simplicity it might make it a little easier
to understand their meanings.
One of the most difficult to grasp for those with a questioning mind is the idea of Faith. "and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel." Mark 1:15 RSV "And Jesus said to him, "If you can! All things are possible to him who believes." Mark 9:23 RSV "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours." Mark 11:24 RSV "Then Jesus told him (Thomas), "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." John 20; 29 RSV Forgiveness is probably one of the hardest things to do when the hurt is deep. But we are told: "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you." Matthew 6:14 "Then Peter came to Jesus
and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins
against me? Up to seven times?"
"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."[ Mark 11:25 Peace, that most precious of gifts, starts within our own hearts and the Peace of the Lord transcends all for it radiates out to others. "But you will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon, and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign." 1 Chronicles 22:9 "I have no peace, no quietness; I have no rest, but only turmoil." Job 3:26 "Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you." Job 22:21 "Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble." Psalm 119:165 "A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones." Proverbs 14:30 "The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever." Isaiah 32:17 Repentance is a conversion of self and a turning back to the Lord. It leads to that inner peace we all desire. "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:32 "and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." Luke 24:47 "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." 2 Corinthians 7:10 "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 Surrender to God encompasses the faith we have in Him, the trust we place in Him, the knowledge that He is there for us and does listen and care. It arrives at the point when we have come to terms with our sinfulness, repented and acknowledged that we really do need God in our lives. The final result is that wonderful peace of mind, heart and spirit that we all seek. Even those who say they have no faith but who turn to God in an act of surrender, giving Him all their worries, fears and even their joys, are turning in an act of faith and trust. "Come to me all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Matthew 11:28-30 (Douay Challoner) Our first story of surrender is about a child given up for death after a serious road accident but who was part of God's plan for greater things - Jimmy's Story |
