Hello everyone, Today, Sunday 1st February we have 1995 people from all over the world and from many Christian and some non-Christian denominations joining together in prayer. We continue with our meditations on the Passion of Christ as we move to the second Station of the Cross. Our little reflection below is called 'Come in from the Cold' written by Bob and Debbie Gass from The Word for Today Last week we started with Christ before Pilate and His death sentence. The second Station is Jesus Takes up His Cross. But much pain and suffering came about in between these first two Stations. Jesus was whipped to within inches of His life, was crowned with thorns, was scorned and humiliated. Every wound, physical and emotional, was for our benefit. His Passion and Death were offered to the Father for our salvation - all of us in the here and now, those who have gone before us and those yet to live. Our sins caused every lash of the whip, every thorn pressing into His head, every scornful word. How many of us really meditate on the wounds and acknowledge that every time we turn away from Him in sin we add an extra stroke of the whip? How many of us can understand what He went through out of pure love for each and every one of us. How many of us are willing to take up our own cross and follow Him? Life isn't easy, it's full of all sorts of different crosses - the cross of illness, the cross of broken marriages and relationships, the cross of depression, fear and loneliness, the cross of feeling unloved or unforgiven, the cross of unemployment and financial worries, the cross of bereavement. And so, at this Station perhaps we can think of ourselves and how we bear these crosses in our own lives. Are we able to stand at the foot of the cross with Christ and offer them to Him, or do we fall under the weight of them, allowing them to drag us down. The group that comes to mind for this Station are all those who are heavy burdened. Let us pray for those suffering with their own crosses that they can find in Jesus the answer to all pain and fears. Most folk have read Footprints - here's the punch line: 'Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all of the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.' .The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your time of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." ************************************************** Come in from the Cold "OFTEN I HAVE LONGED TO GATHER YOUR CHILDREN…AS A HEN GATHERS HER CHICKS UNDER HER WINGS" MATTHEW 23:37 (NIV) In Christianity Today, Andrea Midgett writes: ‘One winter night years ago I went outside to check on the animals in my father’s barn. It was so cold that the water in the horses’ trough had frozen solid. As I went to get an axe to chop through the ice, I noticed a hen perched nearby with several chicks tucked under her wings. She had turned her face and frail body into the storm, her wings outstretched, covering them securely. Suddenly, I was uplifted by this picture of Jesus caring for me. ‘But it struck me that those chicks had to come to the mother hen first. Maybe she chased some of them around the yard. Maybe others came willingly. Maybe some were still out there half-frozen. (There were a few late arrivals perched on top of her wings). I know only that the ones underneath had allowed themselves to be gathered up and protected. They’d quit fighting what they couldn’t control. They’d acknowledged that they needed somebody bigger than themselves who was willing to save them. ‘When I see the cross, I think of the outstretched arms of Jesus. There He is, dying a slow and terrible death with his arms wide open, saying to us, “…often I have longed to gather [you]…as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings…” The cross is God’s invitation to you to stop struggling and come in from the cold. Why don’t you come today? **************************************************

Prayer for Your Family "O Dear Jesus, I humbly implore You to grant Your special graces to our family this day. In Your Divine Mercy make our home a shrine of peace, love and faith. I beg You, Dear Jesus, to protect and bless all of us and our families absent and present, living and dead. O Mary loving Mother of Jesus and our Mother, pray to Jesus the Divine Mercy for our family, and for all the families of the world. Ask Him to guard the tiny infant in the womb, the cradle of the newborn, the young in the schools and those about to start their vocations in life. Amen" Prayer for Your Adult Children "Heavenly Mother, keep us always in mind of Your Son's great mercy and understanding as we pray for our children. They are grown up now and have left us and are living their own lives according to their own ideals. We feel anxious and worried because they do not seem to feel the need for Christ. to understand the wisdom of His ways, or to be fully at ease with us or themselves. Intervene, dearest Mother, in their lives at the moment You know to be right and help them to understand the things that lead to their peace. Help them to see the need of Christ and to experience the greatness of His love, so that we may all proclaim as You did, that His mercy truly is from generation to generation. Amen" Prayer to Saint Joseph, Patron Saint of Families "Good Saint Joseph, Your
life and love protected and nourished the Mother of God and Jesus Christ,
