Added Tuesday 10th December 2002

Hello everyone,

Today, Tuesday 10th December, we have 275 people from all over the world and from many Christian denominations joining together in prayer. Our reflection from Bob and Debbie Gass this week is "Pray for Those in Authority" and taken fromThe Word for Today a FREE quarterly Daily Reflections booklet and great to have at your bedside for morning and night reading. It sure makes me think! My own reflection is on the past couple of weeks and some strange and interesting journeys.

The Weekly Intentions are included below and available on a plain page to be able to print off and kept to hand for your own prayer time.

"Father, bless all those who have requested prayers in whatever it is that you know they may be needing this day! Father, we ask You to heal the broken bodies, broken hearts, broken spirits and broken relationships and may all their lives be full of your peace, prosperity, and power as they seek to have a close relationship with you. Amen."

Thank You Jesus for answering our prayers because we know You hear every prayer and never refuse to answer. You are providing answers and healings from the prayers of all these wonderful people. Praise God!

God Bless you all and thanks a million for being part of the Circle of Prayer - the Prayer Warriors.

Please say the two wee prayers below as often as you can, particularly the first one to the Holy Spirit if you need to see things in a clearer perspective.

"O Holy Spirit, beloved of my soul, I adore You. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me, tell me what I should do. Give me Your orders. I promise to submit myself to all that You desire of me and to accept all that You permit to happen to me. Let me only know Your will. Amen"

"Dear Lord, I give you may hands to do Your work; I give You my feet to go Your way; I give You my eyes to see as You see; I give You my tongue to speak Your words; I give You my mind that You may think in me; I give You my spirit that You may pray in me. Above all, I give You my heart that You may love in me - love the Father and love all humankind. I give You my whole self, Lord, that You may grow in me, so that it is You who lives, works and prays in me. Amen."

When we 'walk with the Lord' He brings us on some great journeys and places in our path some great people. My recent trip to Medugorje was spur of the moment even though I'd hoped to go in September. The Sunday before I did go there was a small notice of a group going out on the following Friday but when I rang to book a seat on the Monday that flight was full. There was a seat for the following day so I asked to be housed with the small Galway group from the Friday flight even though I knew none of them. The lady who had organised that group has turned out to be a great friend with a deep, deep spirituality. We got to talking out there and found we had similar views on the way the world is moving.

During conversation we discussed the many, many changes within our own Church (Catholic) and agreed that most of them aren't really that great. We shared views on a world that is in chaos and heading over a precipice and we wondered why there are so many visionaries and mystics all over the world at the moment, all with the same messages - Repent and Return to God. Well the answer to the last one is easy for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear - the world's in pretty bad shape and getting worse!

Then we shared our worries about our own Catholic Church, the scandals and how changes made since the 60's have not been great. She mentioned the name of two ordinary guys in Northern Ireland whom the Lord is using in an extraordinary way called The Two Patricks. She gave me some of their little books of Messages of Love From Jesus to read. Just before I travelled to the UK she brought the October book of messages and they sure made some interesting reading while I was over there. The Father in Heaven sure ain't pleased with the changes in the Catholic Church, removing Him from the altars away to little side chapels, the use of inclusive language following the feminist agenda and altering His Holy Word in the Scriptures, among other things.

On my return last Monday I decided I wanted to get all their writings and also to see their House of Prayer, to get a feel for it all myself. I rang her to tell her I was going to go and asked if she'd like to come with me. She told me she had a meeting in Dublin on Saturday and it would probably have to wait until after New Year. This was fine by me as I was in no rush. I told her I also had a meeting in Dublin on Saturday. Believe it or not folks, our two meetings were being held in the same hotel! So when we got over that little surprise she suggested we arrange to drive up to Cookstown and spend the Sunday with them as they had a Day of Prayer organised for Aborted Babies, one of three that they dedicate for prayers on Our Lady's special Feast Days - The Annunciation, the Assumption and the Immaculate Conception (Dec. 8th)

What a weekend! What confirmations from the Holy Spirit! What Prayer! I stopped believing in coincidence ages ago but He still amazes me the way He arranges things to have us where He wants us to be! So gentle yet so determined, if we but take the time to listen to those little inner urgings. I've selected the reflection this week because it kinda takes in most of what I'm telling you about.

God Bless till the weekend.

Mary

Pray for those in authority

" PRAY ESPECIALLY FOR RULERS AND THEIR GOVERNMENTS "  1 TIMOTHY 2 : 1 (TM)

When Pastor Joe Wright opened the Kansas Senate in prayer, instead of the usual generalities, this is what they heard:

'Father…Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that’s what we’ve done. We’ve lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We’ve ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism; exploited the poor and called it the lottery; rewarded laziness and called it welfare; killed our unborn and called it choice; shot abortionists and called it justifiable; neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem; abused power and called it politics; coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it ambition; polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression; ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, O God, and know our hearts. Cleanse us and set us free.'

Some people walked out in angry protest, but within six weeks the church Joe Wright pastors received 5,000 calls (only 47 negative!) applauding him. Solomon says, 'By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted…' (Proverbs 11:11). Isaiah says: 'In righteousness shalt thou be established…oppression…fear…[and] terror…shall not come near thee' (Isaiah 54:14). Jesus said we are 'the salt of the earth' (Matthew 5:13). Salt irritates, cleanses, then heals. We’re supposed to use our influence to get involved! Listen: 'To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not…it is sin' (Jas 4:17). Today, become part of the solution. Instead of complaining – pray for those in authority!

Moytura has several other sites with a 'Christian flavour'. Prayerful Thoughts & Thoughtful Prayers is a little collection of prayers and thought-provoking stories, and a few links to some other really nice websites. Reflections for Lent offers a daily meditation for the 40 days of lent and the week leading into Easter. As part of my Journey section of the website join me to learn a little of the Early Christian Church in Ireland by visiting Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciaran on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th. Century. Read about Saint Brendan the Navigator who started a Monastic settlement in the tiny village of Clonfert in the 6th century, located on the Galway/Offaly/Tipperary border. Travel on my journeys to two of Canada's most famous Catholic Shrines - Saint Anne de Beaupré and Cap de la Madeleine, both on the shores of the Saint Lawrence river in Quebec. Finally I welcome you to come with me to see a little of Medugorje, a peaceful haven in a war-torn country - Bosnia-Herzogovina. Please also pay a visit to  Moytura's Irish Bookshop where you can find books on the history of Christianity in IrelandIrish Prayers and Celtic Christianity
