Saint Bridget of Sweden, a 14th century Mystic and Visionary, was given a set of Prayers by Our Divine Lord with five promises to all those who prayed them. By focusing on the seven times Christ lost blood on our account, saying a short set of prayers daily over an ongoing period of years, twelve if possible, He promised the following:

The soul who prays them suffers no purgatory
The soul who prays them will be accepted among the Martyrs as though he/she had spilled their blood for their faith
The soul who prays them can choose three others whom Jesus will then keep in a state of grace sufficient to become holy
No-one in the four generations of the soul who prays them will be lost
The soul who prays them will be made conscious of his/her death one month in advance

This is a tough assignment, twelve years is a big commitment but what great promises they ensure - I really like the fourth one. Being able to cover my whole family with prayer right down to my great grandchildren is well worth the effort I reckon. Those who start the prayer and continue to pray it every day but go to God before the 12 years will retain all the promises because their commitment and intention was to carry out the 12 years. Days missed when life gets in the way can be made up for at any stage, either by saying more than one set a day to catch up or just continuing with them until we rest with the Lord too.

Don't know that I could choose three names specifically so I reckon Our Lord will hear my request to protect the three family members most in need. We know that Jesus is today, yesterday and tomorrow, so He knows who will be most in need.

The seven losses of His Precious Blood were:

     The Circumcision
     The Agony in the Garden
     The Scourging at the Pillar
     The Crowning of Thorns
     The Carrying of the Cross
     The Crucifixion of Jesus
The Piercing of the Side of Jesus

If anyone would like to start this set of prayers they have been added on a plain page that can be printed off - Pray It Forward

Moytura has several other sites with a 'Christian flavour'. Prayerful Thoughts & Thoughtful Prayers is a little collection of prayers and thought-provoking stories, and a few links to some other really nice websites. Reflections for Lent offers a daily meditation for the 40 days of lent and the week leading into Easter. As part of my Journey section of the website join me to learn a little of the Early Christian Church in Ireland by visiting Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciaran on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th. Century. Read about Saint Brendan the Navigator who started a Monastic settlement in the tiny village of Clonfert in the 6th century, located on the Galway/Offaly/Tipperary border. Travel on my journeys to two of Canada's most famous Catholic Shrines - Saint Anne de Beaupré and Cap de la Madeleine, both on the shores of the Saint Lawrence river in Quebec. Finally I welcome you to come with me to see a little of Medugorje, a peaceful haven in a war-torn country - Bosnia-Herzogovina.
