The
Teachings and Miracles of Jesus during His Second Year of Public Ministry
-
Part
I (Part 2 Here)
| This period
of Christ's life opened in Jerusalem where He had come for the second Pash
of His public Life. His cure of a paralytic on the Sabbath brought on persecution
from the Jews and Christ retired promptly to Galilee, where He continued
to preach and to work miracles. During this period He chose His twelve
Apostles and told them of His Kingdom.
Christ's selection of twelve
of His numerous disciples to be Apostles was a big step in the foundation
of His Kingdom. This choice was immediately followed by the Sermon on the
Mount, which has been called the Charter of His Kingdom. Both the selection
of the Apostles and the Sermon on the Mount occured on the hill west of
Lake Genesareth. |

The pool of Bethsaida was
located north of the Temple in Jerusalem. After His discourse with the
Jews in the City Christ returned north to Galilee, a journey of about 80
miles. The location of the early cures specified were performed in Capharnaum
and on the shore of Lake Genesareth. After the cure of the centurion's
son Christ travelled the 24 mile journey from Capharnaum south to Naim.
It was also here that the annointing of Christ took place, thought to be
by Mary Magdalen.
(The
Two Patricks in County Tyrone, Ireland, have written a series of books
on the life and times of Jesus and they are a really excellent read - they
are published under the titles of Song of The Carpenter I & II. Well
worth buying and excellent for schools for Religious Instruction) Below
are the biblical references for the various events according to each evangelist.
Because of the length of this section it has been divided into two. The

The
Teachings and Miracles of Jesus during His Second Year of Public Ministry
- Part 2
Under
our section on The Bible we have attempted to
give a 'potted history' and some explanations around divine inspiration,
translations and interpretation. In order to make your reading of the New
Testament
teachings of the Life of Christ a little easier we have looked at the time
of Jesus from His Conception to His Ascension according to the writings
of the four evangelists, and categorised the various events and teachings
with reference to the chapter and verse of each writer.
We
start with Jesus' Infancy & Childhood;
then move on to the start of Jesus' Public
Ministry. There is no historical proof of actual times available but
we have used the Douay Challoner version to divide the three years of Jesus'
ministry as His First Year of Public
Ministry; His Second Year of
Public Ministry; His Third Year
of Public Ministry; the events leading into His time of betrayal and
suffering during Holy Week; the events surrounding
Holy
Thursday when He instituted the bloodless sacrifice of the Eucharist
to be carried out in His name for perpetuity; the events surrounding His
suffering, passion and death on Good Friday;
and finally His Burial,
Resurection and Ascension into Heaven. |
