This page continues on our contemplation of periods in our lives where we experienced hurts or angers that block our way to forgiveness and to God. We look at the middle adult years, the years when our children can hurt us and we, in turn can hurt them too; when we can be hurt by work colleagues or bosses; when society can hurt us through indifference to our needs towards health care, housing, jobs etc.; when our spouses can hurt us and when 'middle age crisis' can lead to divorce and separations; when our parents can hurt us by interfering with marriages instead of supporting both partners; when the pressures of life can become unbearable at times - financial pressures, social pressures, peer pressures, teenage children pressures and when we can fall into the materialism trap of this modern world.

These are the years when death starts to knock on our doors, - the loss of a dear parent, a beloved child, a good friend, a serious illness diagnosis for us or a spouse. These are the years when we start to question - 'what is it all about?'

These are the years when we strive to provide a safe and secure home and often in the doing seek stuff we don't really need. These are the years when, as providers, we can neglect those who are most precious to us - our families. These are the years when work becomes the most important thing in our lives and as we move towards our fifties the threats of young entrants to the workforce leave us insecure.

There is no particular time throughout our lives when we most need to pray but I think these are the years when we really do have to keep ourselves focused on God, His eternal Mercy and His unending love for us. These are the years when we can really 'lay our load at His door' and ask Him to help us to carry it, to hand over the problems and say - Lord I surrender all to Your Will!

Let us say the lovely prayer to the Holy Spirit below morning noon and night and ask Him to enlighten us to those areas in our middle years where we need to forgive and seek forgiveness. You'll be amazed at the peace that will result and the ability to cope will come and the answer to many prayers will arrive. Surrendering all to Him in faith and trust will reap rich rewards.

Our reflection is "The Huddle" and is taken from the The Word for Today written by Bob and Debbie Gass.

The Huddle

" I APPEAL TO YOU…IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, THAT ALL OF YOU AGREE WITH ONE ANOTHER… "  1 CORINTHIANS 1 : 10 (NIV)

To lead your family effectively, you need to learn how to huddle regularly. The 'huddle' is where a team:
(1) sets its goals
(2) discusses the division of responsibilities
(3) tackles the issues that determine whether it wins or loses.

Parent, even though you call the plays from overhead, your family must be taught how to accomplish them on the field. That means…working through things…talking through the disagreements…motivating and appreciating each member.

Try to listen with an open heart. Don’t just hear what your children say, try to understand how they feel. Yes, you’re the boss, and yes, you can act like the Gestapo and enforce your will if you want to. But sooner or later you’ll have trouble, for resentment grows when people feel left out. Every member of your team has got to be part of the decision-making process. Involve them! Ask God to help you look beyond what you want to what’s best for all of you.

And don’t fall under the spell of instant gratification. What looks good to you today could be taking you off the path to a better tomorrow.

And don’t let 'outsiders' into your huddle. Tell them to stay in their own. Too often their opinions are based on hearsay, self-interest or jealousy.

Respect the privacy of your team. Build loyalty. Huddle regularly in prayer. When you do that, everybody wins!

Short Prayer for Today

"Lord, I know You are with me today in all my adversities, my sorrows and pain. You have said: "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find, Knock and the door will be opened unto you." Today, dear Jesus, I ask, I seek and I knock. Help me now to be able to hand all over to You and to accept the outcome. Not my will be done but Thine."

Moytura has several other sites with a 'Christian flavour'. Prayerful Thoughts & Thoughtful Prayers is a little collection of prayers and thought-provoking stories, and a few links to some other really nice websites. Reflections for Lent offers a daily meditation for the 40 days of lent and the week leading into Easter. As part of my Journey section of the website join me to learn a little of the Early Christian Church in Ireland by visiting Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciaran on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th. Century. Read about Saint Brendan the Navigator who started a Monastic settlement in the tiny village of Clonfert in the 6th century, located on the Galway/Offaly/Tipperary border. Travel on my journeys to two of Canada's most famous Catholic Shrines - Saint Anne de Beaupré and Cap de la Madeleine, both on the shores of the Saint Lawrence river in Quebec. Finally I welcome you to come with me to see a little of Medugorje, a peaceful haven in a war-torn country - Bosnia-Herzogovina.
