This page focusses on our young adult years when we may have been hurt by family, friends, work colleagues, bosses, neighbours etc. These are the years when school's over and we make our way on to further education, into the work force or, for some, onto the unemployment lists. These are often the years when we really hold onto hurts and resentments and let them eat us up by not being able to forgive. It is in these years that self esteem can be so low that we find ourselves turning to drugs, alcohol and promiscuous sexual activity.

These are the years when we feel we 'are on our way' but can come under all sorts of pressures. Relationships deepen and marriages are young. Many form live-in relationships without a formal commitment. But is the modern way so secure and fulfilling?

Unwanted pregnancies arrive and the dilemma of how to cope or what to do arises. These are the years when regretful decisions can be made to accommodate lifestyles or the career ladder.

These are the years when we find ourselves in sexual relationships that really don't have commitment or honour, love or respect.

These are the years where our self-esteem can be severely dented if we don't reach those goals we set for ourselves. Or, more damaging for us, if we don't reach those goals and dreams our parents had for us.

I read a lovely little booklet during the week called 'Love Yourself' and it deals with the walls and defences we put in place from all sorts of hurts and rejections right back to childhood and perhaps even from the moment  of conception. It is during our young adult years that we start to build those defensive walls, harden attitudes and bury the hurts rather than forgive and release. The very moment we are conceived we are a perfect gem, a priceless treasure in the eyes of God. The very minute we were born we were His beloved to walk a life with Him, for Him and towards Him. From then on in we are either nourished in these beliefs and love or starved and neglected of the love thus shattering the beliefs.

So for those of us who carry our hurts and angers from these years now is the time to let go, see ourselves as the beautiful and beloved person we are in the eyes of God and start to love ourselves as He loves us.

Short Prayer for Today

"Lord, I know You are with me today in all my adversities, my sorrows and pain. You have said: "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find, Knock and the door will be opened unto you." Today, dear Jesus, I ask, I seek and I knock. Help me now to be able to hand all over to You and to accept the outcome. Not my will be done but Thine."

Moytura has several other sites with a 'Christian flavour'. Prayerful Thoughts & Thoughtful Prayers is a little collection of prayers and thought-provoking stories, and a few links to some other really nice websites. Reflections for Lent offers a daily meditation for the 40 days of lent and the week leading into Easter. As part of my Journey section of the website join me to learn a little of the Early Christian Church in Ireland by visiting Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciaran on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th. Century. Read about Saint Brendan the Navigator who started a Monastic settlement in the tiny village of Clonfert in the 6th century, located on the Galway/Offaly/Tipperary border. Travel on my journeys to two of Canada's most famous Catholic Shrines - Saint Anne de Beaupré and Cap de la Madeleine, both on the shores of the Saint Lawrence river in Quebec. Finally I welcome you to come with me to see a little of Medugorje, a peaceful haven in a war-torn country - Bosnia-Herzogovina. Please also pay a visit to  Moytura's Irish Bookshop where you can find books on the history of Christianity in IrelandIrish Prayers and Celtic Christianity
