Charles Capps
has written a lovely little book called 'God's Creative Power for Healing'.
In it he speaks of the power of our thoughts and words. The positive and
the negative effects both can have upon us. He quotes a study carried out
in 1991 whereby some 23,000 over 65s who felt and answered that their health
was poor were four to five times more likely to die within the following
four years than those who felt and stated that their health was good. This
was the case even with those who had been examined and found to be in good
health.
The part of the brain that controls speech is also that part which secretes certain chemicals in the body that boost the immune system. How often have we heard the saying - 'surround yourself with positive people'? So too is it important for us to surround our bodies with 'positive thoughts'. "I feel good today, thank You Lord"; "You have given me abundant life Father, today that life flows through my veins, seeps into every organ, fills my heart and mind."; "Jesus, through the suffering wounds of Your torture and crucifixion You are healing me."; "You have placed me in the care of Your Angels, Lord, and they guide me along the path towards good health"; "Your Divine Health flows through every cell of my Body, through the love of Jesus" The Book of Proverbs continually points out the benefits to be gained from living the Word and Teaching of the Lord and the way our speech can affect our lives. By speaking in positive terms we start to secrete those chemicals into the body that build up the immune system rather than the negative ones that drag us down. "My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity." Proverbs 3: 1-2 "My son, pay attention to
what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight,
"The mouth of the righteous
is a fountain of life, but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked."
"From the fruit of his lips a man is filled with good things as surely as the work of his hands rewards him." Proverbs 12: 14 "A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones." Proverbs 14: 30 "The tongue that brings healing
is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit."
These lessons show us how important it is to keep the Word of God alive and well within our hearts. and throughout our lives. Being positive in thought, word and deed will lead to a peaceful heart, a healthy mind and body and will influence those with whom we come into contact. Adam's fall from grace and God's favour brought a curse on his generations in the form of sin and sickness. God gave us His Son, Jesus Christ, to take these upon Himself and free us of the curse and bondage of sin and sickness. Throughout the New Testament we hear of Jesus healing and forgiving sin. He was asked, He heard and He healed. Never once do we read of Jesus refusing to heal. One of the most powerful healings we read of is that of the woman whose faith was so strong that all she sought to do was touch the hem of His garment. She just knew she would be healed. And the story of the centurion who knew all he had to do was ask and that all the Lord had to do was speak the word and the servant would be healed. Hope and faith combined with asking bring marvelous results. Positive thoughts and words in the name of Jesus can bring about healing. Jesus has told us over and over that our faith can move mountains, that all we have to do is ask, seek and knock and we will be answered, find and have the door opened to us. Jesus gave us the power to overcome by invoking His name in all we do. Before ascending into heaven He promised that the Holy Spirit would transform us with His Fruits and build us with His Gifts. If we walk in the Spirit, in faith and in expectation of all that is good, we have the power to heal ourselves in the name of Jesus by rebuking the illnesses and the fears that we carry, This does not mean denying our illness, or neglecting the advice or medications given to us by doctors. It is simply calling on the Grace of God to strengthen the spiritual healing powers we all have as Children of God. The Holy Spirit resides in the heart of everyone who has given their whole lives over to God and as such is our constant conduit to the powerful healing of God, the peace of God and the Divine Health God has for us. Today then let us give our whole life over to God, completely and in true faith by reciting a prayer of surrender, and repentance: "Dear Lord, I am truly sorry for all my sins and ask your forgiveness. I vow today to turn away from everything that I know is wrong and not of you. I will try, with Your help, to make amends for my wrongdoing, to correct the mistakes I have made, to 'place my house in order'. Father I thank you with all my heart for giving me Your only Son Jesus Christ to take my sins on His shoulders. His Cross is my salvation. Today I open my heart to You and ask You to take Your rightful place within my heart. Release the Holy Spirit within me so that I may now walk in Your presence with His fruits - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Thank You dear Jesus, lead me to Your loving Father and ask Your Holy Spirit to guide me from now on. In Your hands dear Lord I place all my hope, trust and faith." Then in true faith we can start to see ourselves well, speak ourselves well and claim that Gift of Divine Healing and Divine Health that God has for us.
